PREVENTATIVE CARE
These are general guidelines for preventive care measures that you should take to minimize disease or illness in your herd.
Note: From both health and implementation standpoints, vaccination programs work best when customized to your individual operation. For this reason, we recommend that you contact us to set up an appointment to discuss your vaccination schedule.
Required vaccines:
- Clostridium CD/T (Clostridium perfringes Types C and D, and
Clostridium tetani [tetanus])
- Rabies
Optional vaccines:
- Foot rot
- Contagious ecthyma (sore mouth)
- Camplylobacter fetus (Vibriosis)
- Chlamydia psittaci
- West Nile Virus
- Parainfluenza-3 virus (respiratory disease in lambs)
Recommended procedures:
- Buck/ram fertility testing pre-breeding
- Removal of supernumerary (extra) teats in dairy animals
- Hoof care: at least once annually, twice in some situations;
foot exam for any lame animal
- Ovine progressive pneumonia (OPP) virus and Brucella ovis
testing in sheep
- Caprine Encephalitis Arthritis (CAE) and Caseous Lymphadenitis
(CLA) testing in goats
